For SMAU 2014 the people at Redder wanted to provide a clear demonstration of how their ultra-broadband network's low latency worked, so they asked 5 musicians to play together from 2 different cities, and they asked us to come up with the logo, visual material and website for the event.

Excerpt from custom field
Snippet to extract an excerpt from a custom field (in this case, using advanced custom fields)
// add to functions.php
function custom_field_excerpt() {
global $post;
$text = get_field('description'); // change this with the field you want to get the excerpt from
if ( '' != $text ) {
$text = strip_shortcodes( $text );
$text = apply_filters('the_content', $text);
$text = str_replace('', '', $text);
$excerpt_length = 18; // size of the excerpt
$excerpt_more = apply_filters('excerpt_more', ' ' . '[...]');
$text = wp_trim_words( $text, $excerpt_length, $excerpt_more );
}
return apply_filters('the_excerpt', $text);
}

// add this to your template file
<?php echo custom_field_excerpt(); ?>
Create a one-page website
You can create a single-page wordpress website splitting your content inside the page and then quering them. The structure is quite easy: you need a parent page used as container and all the child-paged you need to build up your website
<?php /* Template Name: One Page Holder */ ?>
<?php get_header(); ?>

<?php
$args = array(
'sort_order' => 'ASC',
'sort_column' => 'menu_order',
'hierarchical' => 1,
'exclude' => '',
'child_of' => get_the_ID(),
'exclude_tree' => '',
'number' => '',
'offset' => 0,
'post_type' => 'page',
'post_status' => 'publish'
);
$pages = get_pages( $args );

// Loop through child pages
foreach ( $pages as $page ):
$title = $page->post_title;
$slug = $page->post_name;
$page_id = $page->ID;
$content = apply_filters( 'the_content', $page->post_content );
?>

// Some content

<?php get_footer(); ?>
Shuffle gallery images
PHP lets you randomize the position of the photo inside a gallery with the "shuffle" command. All you need to to is to give the shuffle command to your image array
<?php $images = // your array of images;
if( $images ): ?>

<?php shuffle( $images ); ?>
<?php foreach( $images as $image ): ?>

<img src="<?php echo $image; ?>" />

<?php endforeach; ?>

<?php endif; ?>
